Principal’s Message

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to St Therese’s Catholic Primary School Lakemba’s website.

At St Therese’s, we help our students to discover their innate talents and unlock their learning potential under our vision of “Growth for All”.

In keeping with our vision, I turn your attention to the news at present, and that is how we as a school and a community are handling the challenges of COVID-19.

As you are aware, we are in Category 4 restrictions, which means remote learning for the children in our school. Obviously, remote learning works more effectively for some children. Luckily, the staff at St Therese’s Lakemba have worked to develop meaningful learning experiences that the children can achieve remotely. We are providing supervision for students who need to be onsite; this is essentially for children of essential workers who cannot access supervision for their children whilst they are fulfilling their obligations.

Our infants are provided remote learning Take Home Packs each week and are available every Friday. Last year, we found the infants’ suffered most during the lockdown and because of this our staff are carefully selecting learning experiences that are achievable for each student.

If you are finding it difficult to manage your child’s learning, please reach out to the teachers when they call to check in with you. Personal wellbeing is a very important consideration and if you are not on top of things it can affects others, especially those closest to you.

As a community-inspired school, guided by our Schoolwide Positive Behaviour for Learning principles, we’re proud to say that we have already had measures in place to handle even the most unprecedented challenges. We’re here and ready to take your child through to the next phase of their education journey, having acquired a new found resilience, depth of compassion and eagerness to learn and grow along the way.

Our responses to recent event are exemplary of our learning culture. If you want your child to receive an outstanding Christian holistic education where they will be nurtured to grow into people of purpose and passion, then consider our schools the place to be now and in the future.

As Principal of St Therese’s Catholic Primary School Lakemba, I invite you to connect with us and discover the wonderful opportunities we have to offer your child.

Mr Kelley Conlan

St Therese’s Catholic Primary school began in 1926, under the care of the Sisters of St Joseph. As a community of believers we are united by the message of Jesus and inspired by the lives and teachings of St Therese of Lisieux and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

St Therese lived each day with an unshakable confidence in God’s love. “What matters in life,” she wrote, “is not great deeds, but great love”. Therese lived and taught a spirituality of attending to everyone and everything well and with love. She believed that just as a child becomes captivated by what is before them, we should also have a childlike focus and totally attentive love. Therese’s spirituality is of doing the ordinary, with extraordinary love.

May we, like St Therese, attend to everyone and everything well and with love.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s legacy has gone well beyond her start at Penola. From the humble beginnings of her first school, opened in 1866, to the robust Catholic education system in operation Australia wide today, we follow in St Mary of the Cross’ footsteps embracing her simple philosophy of never seeing a need without doing something about it.

May we, like Mary, never see a need without doing something about it.
