Principal’s Message

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to St Therese’s Catholic Primary School Lakemba’s website.

At St Therese’s, we help our students to discover their innate talents and unlock their learning potential under our vision of “Growth for All”.

We are excited that the return to face to face is approaching and that we will soon be able to welcome your children at the gate and into the classroom. As you would have seen, the NSW Government has changed the timeline for school return to align with the anticipated community vaccination rates.

I appreciate that it is difficult to plan in these constantly changing circumstances and our teachers have been working very hard and professionally to amend their plans to fit with these changes. As per the government’s announcement, we recently welcomes Kindergarten and Year 1 back on the 18th October and the rest of our school Years 2–6 returned earlier this week on the 25th October.

History

St Therese’s Catholic Primary school began in 1926, under the care of the Sisters of St Joseph. As a community of believers we are united by the message of Jesus and inspired by the lives and teachings of St Therese of Lisieux and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

St Therese lived each day with an unshakable confidence in God’s love. “What matters in life,” she wrote, “is not great deeds, but great love”. Therese lived and taught a spirituality of attending to everyone and everything well and with love. She believed that just as a child becomes captivated by what is before them, we should also have a childlike focus and totally attentive love. Therese’s spirituality is of doing the ordinary, with extraordinary love.

May we, like St Therese, attend to everyone and everything well and with love.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s legacy has gone well beyond her start at Penola. From the humble beginnings of her first school, opened in 1866, to the robust Catholic education system in operation Australia wide today, we follow in St Mary of the Cross’ footsteps embracing her simple philosophy of never seeing a need without doing something about it.

May we, like Mary, never see a need without doing something about it.
